Chapter 29: Arabella

Monday, October 1.
Her hair was tied up into a messy bun on the top of her head and she was sitting on he bed, loose papers and pens covering the entire bed. Arabella let out a sigh as she reached for her text book, glaring down at the page. The words seemed to float up off of the pages and jumble together. She groaned and flopped back against her pillows, rubbing her eyes. This paper was important. She needed to get a good grade on it but it was giving her a head ache. Arabella wished that she had it as easy as some of the other people in her school. They always seemed to have it so easy.

Arabella let her arms drop to her sides and she looked up at her ceiling and the pattern of stars she had painted there. It like it had been forever since she painted those, but it had only been a year and a half. She closed her eyes, trying to settle herself down a little bit so that she could focus on her paper. However, her mind floated back to Hunter. It had been two weeks since she sent that letter to him. The letter than had her heart and soul in it. Her feelings for him were in that letter and she needed to know how he felt. If he didn't feel the same way, Arabella could deal with that. But knowing how he felt would be like he was giving her permission to move on and try things with Ethan.

Arabella yawned and she grabbed a pillow, flopping it down on her face. She was hoping that she could get away from all of the drama that she had been dealing with at camp but she clearly didn't have that sort of luck.

"My gods, your room is a mess. Some daughter of Aphrodite you are" A voice snorted and Arabella let out a shout of surprise. She sat up, looking around her room. Ethan was standing in there. Well, it looked like he was standing there. It was an Iris message.

"You nearly gave me a heart attack, Ethan" Arabella sighed, holding her hand over her heart, which was still racing. Ethan laughed and Arabella shot a look at him.

"I'm glad that I could scare you so well" Ethan grinned. He cleared his throat and put his hands in his pockets. Since he had kissed her, they had been talking a lot but they never saw each other in person.

"Mmm...maybe you could make a career out of it. I'm sure it pays well" Arabella huffed and she started organizing her papers and her books, fixing her bed a little bit.

"I'll look into it" Ethan nodded and he smiled at her. There was a moment of silence, just a beat. "Look...I think that we need to see each other again. It's been too long." He said and Arabella gave him a little smile.

"What are you planning?" She asked him, leaned back against the wall and looking over at him.

"A date" Ethan nodded "I'm taking you on a date and I'm going to go before you protest. I'll pick you up at 8 on Friday"

"Ethan, wait.." Arabella started but his image was gone. She smiled a little to herself, glancing out of her window. A date. Maybe Hunter wasn't replying to her because he didn't feel the same way. She was angry that he didn't reply but she knew that she couldn't keep holding on to the image she had in her mind of her and Hunter. Arabella let out a sigh and she fiddled with the beads on her camp necklace, which she had turned into a bracelet. She was ready to move forward with Ethan. She was ready to trust him and she was ready to let go of Hunter.

The next day, Arabella had trouble focusing in class. She was trying to pay attention but it wasn't easy. She was sitting in the middle of the classroom, listening to her history teacher drone on and on. History was her best class and she had a high grade in it but sometimes she just wanted to jump up and teach it herself. They had been talking about ancient Greece for a couple weeks already and Arabella found it horribly boring. Half of the stuff they were talking about was stuff that she already knew and the other half wasn't exactly accurate.

As far as Arabella could tell, the class was starting to have a debate. She was half asleep, so she shook herself, trying to wake herself up a bit. "Aphrodite was selfish and shallow. Besides, she was a pointless goddess. I just don't understand" A girl said in a slightly bored and annoyed voice. Arabella glared over at her.

"Don't talk about her like that" Arabella snapped before she could stop herself. Everyone in the class looked at her, raising their eyebrows and trying not to laugh. Her cheeks turned pink and she cleared her throat. "I uhm, I just mean that I think it's unfair to say that she is pointless. Love is so powerful and means something to everyone. Love can cripple an army. I think that's pretty amazing" She said, taking a little breath.

The bell rang soon after and Arabella huffed, thank the gods, she thought and she quickly grabbed her stuff and ran out of the room. She wanted to get home as quickly as possible. After Ethan asked her out last night, Arabella had been a nervous wreck and she was desperate to get home and pick through her clothes again.

She had to make sure that everything was totally perfect for this date.
