Chapter 12: Hunter

Hunter opened his eyes slowly to see dirt and tree roots. He looked up and remembered that they didn't want to risk discovery by Caleb, so they slept out in the woods. Jake was leaned up against a rock, his head more than likely uncomfortably slumped over. Hunter stretched and yawned a little as he felt a pain in his back from sleeping against a rock. Hunter looked around a moment before kicking Jake's leg. He didn't wake up, so Hunter slipped down and poked him in the stomach hard with his foot.

"No, not the mayonnaise! OW!" He shouted, waking up then clutching his neck. "Cheese and rice, what?" He said with a groan as he rubbed his eyes.

"Come on. We need to get up before they send out a search party." Hunter said with another yawn before pulling himself back onto the rock behind him. "Dude, I can't believe we got away with it."

"I know. I was completely expecting us to wake up dead and don't correct me." Jake pulled himself to his feet then cracked his back. "Ohhh...bunny slippers, that felt good." He said with a satisfied grumble.

"Wow. Do that tonight and Arabella won't be able to keep her hands off you." Hunter said sarcastically. He ran a hand through his hair and started rolling his shoulders before shaking his entire body, trying to wake up a little. "Alright. Now how do we get out of here?" He said with a sigh, standing up and looking around.

"Well, ocean is that way. That means camp is that way." Jake said, pointing before heading toward camp. Hunter nodded then walked toward the water. "Hey uh...where you going?" Jake said, turning toward him. "You can hear the ocean from here. That means camp is that-a-way." He said, pointing again.

"The ocean is that-a-way." Hunter said, pointing toward the water. "Caleb and his band of...ass clowns will probably be watching the woods, considering he watched us go into the woods and then didn't see us come out." Hunter watched Jake think about this. "Dude, think. It's about 11. We go to the beach, pretend we've been swimming for a while, go back to camp, and Caleb doesn't know it's us. It's not like we're the only people in camp he's pissed off." Jake thought for a second then nodded.

"Yeah. That's smart. I'm surprised I didn't think of it." He said before heading toward the ocean with Hunter.

Hunter got some lunch and almost immediately ran into Brooke. She watched him get his butt kicked again then before he knew it, they were getting ready for the party.

"What do I even wear to parties like this?" Jake asked, picking through his clothes. Brooke looked up from her spot on Hunter's bed where she looked through Hunter's clothes.

"Do you have anything with buttons?" She asked, shaking her head. She sighed and threw another t-shirt onto the 'no' pile then finally found a plaid button up shirt. "Thank goodness. Alright. Wear this. Now onto pants. She dug out all of his pairs of jeans and started going through them pair by pair. Hunter took off his shirt and pulled on the plaid shirt, buttoning it up all the way and buttoning the sleeves. "Okay. These will--What are you doing?" Hunter looked at her like he was in trouble.

"I was just...is there something wrong?" Hunter said, looking down at the shirt. She sighed and got up off the bed. She walked over and unbuttoned the top two buttons then unbuttoned the sleeves and rolled them up. She smoothed it out and then reached up, giving him a little kiss on the chin.

"What would you do without me?" She said with a little smile as she turned around and started to leave. "Alright. Put those pants on and don't wear those stupid green shoes. They are hideous."  She reached the door then turned back to Hunter. "You're going to love what I'm wearing. Bye, gentlemen." She blew a kiss at Hunter then left the cabin, closing the door behind her.

"That was...surreal." Jake said with a nod.

"Oh, shove it." Hunter said just as the door burst open again.

"Crap! Crap! Crap! Crap!" Brody said, scurrying around the room. "Shit! Dammit!" He ran and slid under a bed. Hunter and Jake exchanged glances as he heard Brody knocking on the boards.

"Brody. Hey uh...Brody." Jake said, walking over and  nudging his foot. Hunter walked over next to Jake and they crouched down.

"Brody, calm down and talk to us." Brody sighed and came out from under the bed.

"I promised to bring the booze for the party tonight and I'm running late and I didn't check my stash, so I'm running out of time to get more if I need to." He said quickly before ducking under the bed and tapping on the boards again. Hunter tried not to laugh and cleared his throat.

"Uh...Brody? Your bed is over there." He said, pointing to the other row of beds. Brody looked confused for a second and then looked down at the bed covered in baby blue sheets and the make up case next to it.

"Oh." Was all he said before scrambling to the other bed and ducking under. Hunter laughed and then nudged Jake, gesturing that it's time to meet Brooke for the party. They headed out of the cabin and toward Aphrodite cabin.

"Dude, I have a good feeling about tonight." Jake said, patting Hunter on the back. They walked up to the porch and knocked on the door. Hunter laughed.

"Me too. I hope tonight is a good one." Hunter said just as the door opened to reveal Brooke dressed in a low cut white cocktail dress that reached about halfway up her thigh with a black belt and a pair of bright red heels. Hunter looked her up and down, his mouth feeling suddenly dry.

"Do you like it?" She said, smoothing it out. "Please, of course you do. Let's go!" She said before taking Hunter's hand and hauling him off toward the woods.

What have I gotten myself into?
